Support for California Red Resolution
Whereas California Red is the primary means by which the state’s rank and file DSA members learn about the activities of other members and chapters across California, and
Whereas California Red is published bimonthly, with a full issue every other month and on the off months a few articles, and
Whereas the publication is produced by the all-volunteer California DSA Communications Committee, comrades who are also active in their local chapters as well as in various political spheres, and
Whereas California Red is the only regular publication that focuses on the work of democratic socialists across the state, and
Whereas California Red relies on articles submitted by members, and
Whereas the main way that articles are solicited is by an email that goes out monthly to comrades who have written previously for the publication, and another that goes to State Council members, imploring them either to write themselves or ask people in their chapter to write, and
Whereas this method has resulted in many good articles, but has yet to capture the full range of activities our members are engaged in around the state, and
Whereas by reading about our participation in labor, anti-war, environmental, immigrant rights and other anti-fascist movements, etc. our members take heart and renewed inspiration for their own work, and
Whereas beyond participating in state council meetings, most California DSA state council delegates are not overburdened with state-level work,
Therefore be it resolved that each chapter delegation shall designate one delegate member to 1) actively write or solicit articles for California Red from their chapter membership, reporting on a current chapter activity or activities on a regular basis (recognizing that larger chapters have more resources to do this, so “regular” could be as often as every issue, or as seldom as once a year), and 2) promote or get their chapter to promote each issue of California Red to their chapter membership with social media posts, and
Be it further resolved that each chapter shall submit the name of that designated individual and their contact information to the California DSA Communications Committee by the next State Council meeting.
